The Ginninderra Tigers host athletic events from October to March each year. Ginninderra holds 20 regular events across the season, more than other club in the ACT.
Ginninderra accepts athlete registrations at the beginning of September in the following age groups:
The Tigers offer a Family Friendly program so that everyone can get involved. Saturday mornings kick off with the youngest athletes only with Senior athletes getting their chance to own the oval from 09:30am on conclusion of Little Athletics.
Every Saturday Senior Athletes can enjoy their choice of ten athletic events at Charnwood Oval. That’s twice as many sprints, distance runs, throws and jumps. With more frequency enjoy your favourite events more often. Each morning do what’s right for you and at your own pace. The community atmosphere and social context removes any need for competition other than achieving your own goals.
Over the summer represent the Tigers in regular Association Inter-club competitions. Participation is completely voluntary and Inter-club features competition with athletes from other ACT and interstate athletes at the AIS or the Woden Park athletics track.
Registered Members of Ginninderra can choose to exclusively participate at Charnwood or Inter-club Competitions if they wish. Similarly criss-crossing between the two is completely acceptable.
Competing at Inter-club however is the only official location for achieving qualifying performances for National Championships if that is your aim.
Many of the Club’s Coaches continue to work with athletes through-out the year, speak with the Coaching Coordinator for more details.
Over the season hang back between events and enjoy a cold drink and a sausage at Charnwood Oval with your mates.
Kick on from there by heading over to the Magpies Sports Club and enjoy your member access to all Magpies facilities including the Sports Club, Golf Club and the City Club on Bunda Street.
With over 110 events being conducted each Saturday morning, Athletes rely heavily on the involvement of Volunteers who can participate in a number of ways:
- As an Age Marshal (Saturday mornings);
- General Volunteer (ad hoc);
- As a qualified Official;
- Coaching Athletes;
- Sponsoring Ginninderra;
- Wearing A-roar-a (the Club Mascot);
- Joining the Committee;
- Junior Coach;
Assisting as a Volunteer is a very rewarding experience and a great way to get involved in the social atmosphere at Ginninderra Tigers.
One of the more social roles is our resident DJ and MC, perhaps you are the next Golden Tonsils of Charnwood or behind the best pump-up playlist at the Tigers this season?
If you have any questions about how to get involved at Ginninderra please contact the Club President.
