Mitch jumps past Triple Record

On the 1st of July Mitchall Anderson broke Jordan Reis’ long standing Triple Jump Record in the U16 Men. The record set in 2001/02 was 11.63m and Mitch’s best performance at the Winter High Noon Meet was 12.30m. Jordan who was a very talented Hurdler still holds three ACT Records.

Mitch hasn’t been the only athlete breaking new ground over Winter with Jordan Gusman breaking his own Open Men 1500m Club Record (3:43.05) with a best of 3:37.97 at the Huelva Meet in Spain on 14th June. Jordan’s time is also an unofficial ACT Record breaking Pat Carroll’s All Comers record (3:39.03) and Corey Tucker’s ACT Resident record (3:38.42). The time has Jordan knocking on the world’s top 100 1500m Runners and places him as the 5th fastest Aussie this year.

Coincidentally Pat Carroll who represented Australia in the Marathon only slightly has a better mark than Club Record Holder Rod Higgins in the Marathon set in 1993 of 2:17:00. Rod also has Club Records in the Half Marathon of 1:04:22.0 and the 15km of 44:33.0 respectively.

Throwing it out there

The Summer Series really heated up on the weekend with temperatures above 40 degrees causing a delay in the start of events. But when the action got underway there were Season Bests to Mel Breen and Holley Abbey as well as Personal Bests to Charlotte Rauraa and Stephen Fraser in the Hammer – both performances are qualifiers for Junior Nationals.

Saturday was not a huge turnout with only 5 athletes competing due to the heatwave and many athletes resting before the ACT Championships this coming weekend.  Ken Telfer had a good return in the 100m running his fastest all year.

Meanwhile Jordan Gusman’s 1500m time in Sydney has him now ranked Number 1 in the World in the event. We wish Jordan every success at staying there for as long as possible as the new year gets underway.
