Commitment to Little Athletes

The members of the UC Ginninderra Athletics Club today donated 3 Discus and 2 Shot Put Trolleys to the Ginninderra Little Athletics Club. The two clubs have now entered their third year of a joint affiliation that sees the members of both clubs benefit.

The Discus Trolley (blue and red) holds 36 items (108 Discus in total). Enough for all three Discus Cages at Charnwood Athletics field, the joint home ground for both clubs.

The Shot Put Trolley (grey) holds 25 items (50 Shots in total).

The trolleys are collectively worth $2065 and very mobile, easy to move across any surface and store securely. The donation will allow easier access to equipment by members of both clubs at the weekly Intraclub Competition. Ginninderra Little Athletics will also be able to retire a cumbersome equipment trailer that has been an OH&S issue for some time.

The partnership sees the UC Tigers grow its own membership year-on-year and by working with the local Little Athletics Centres in Belconnen the Club hopes to improve the facilities and standards for every athlete in its feeder area.

UCGAC’s members are available to coach, officiate and mentor Little Athletics Centres in all facets of the sport. The memorandum of understanding with Ginninderra Athletics continues to show the benefit of working together. Day 1 Wrap Up 2017 ACT Champs

The first evening of competition at the 2017 Athletics ACT State Championships saw 24 UC Ginninderra Athletics Club members in action. There was some personal disappoints on the track with an unlucky DQ however plenty of positives for everyone that competed.

All our athletes in the 800m ran PBs, including massive drops of 5-6 seconds for Meg Freeman, Annika Wise and Rebecca Guest. Raage Noor and Jacob Davill won silver and bronze medals repressively, so too James Lemon and Hayden Todd.

Bile Noor and Nick Donaldson picked up their first medals for the weekend with silver respectively in the 200m Hurdles. They were joined by Alice Fraser who also ran a Season Best finishing fourth overall.

Sidney Shaw won a silver medal in the 3000m Walk in a huge 30s PB.

The Mens Shot Put was also a happy hunting ground for the Tigers with both Stephen Fraser and Luke Allard throwing Season Bests. Stephen won gold as did Cameron Crombie and Eden Thomas. Steve Dodt received a bronze medal only just ahead of his compatriots Luke and Neil Thomas. Cameron was just shy (2cm) of the Australian Record in his throw of 14.65m.

Chris Mecham in his return from injury collected a silver medal in the Long Jump with a mighty leap of 4.34m. Faggy Tshoji achieved a 40cm PB in his Long Jump in what was his first Athletics ACT competition since joining the UC Tigers this season. Bec Guest also earned a PB in the Long Jump competing against in the older girls in the Under 16s.
