UC Ginninderra’s Sue Bourke has claimed a bronze medal in the W55 400m Final at the Perth 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships. Running a season best time of 1:07.80, Bourke was the first Aussie over the line finishing narrowly behind Lorraine Jasper (USA) and Elaine Pretorius (RSA).
The World Champs are Sue’s first International competition, however she has been ranked top 5 in the World for the 400m for the last two years. Briefly holding the top position for 2 months earlier in 2016. In Perth, Sue also made the final of the 200m, however elected to bypass the last eight to focus on a medal in the 400m in a decision that has certainly paid off.
Sue’s Ginninderra team mates Mark Rossiter and Ken Telfer are also competing in Perth. The Boys have also ran well, sometimes into the tough Westerly Wind in Perth, however they have posted respectable performances:
- Mark Rossiter: 400m Heat, 53.51s
- Mark Rossiter: 200m Heat, 24.04s
- Mark Rossier: 200m Semi, 23.91s
- Sue Bourke: 200m Heat, 30.07s
- Ken Telfer: 100m Heat, 12.32s
- Ken Telfer: 100m Semi, 12.73s
With one day to go, Ken, Mark and Sue are competing for Australia in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays in their respective ages. There is a good chance of more medals to come for the Tigers and Australia in Perth.
